So after two weeks of running Fiction Bites, I have a good idea of what content works and what might not.
Yesterday and today it’s been difficult to write so I’ve been less motivated to start typing up this weeks content. The Story Reviews have been doing great, I just haven’t finished a story this week to write one. I think the plan is to do a random shout out on another creative but we’ll see.
What hasn’t been working are these weekly updates. So I won’t be telling you all in advanced what’s coming out lol. My author site will still tell what I have planned but I think what you all want is content now and not what’s coming up. You are looking for something to read, not an expectation or anticipation of things coming.
The Friday night stories have also not worked. I’m seeing very few reads which scares me. I’m setting out to become an author and these are tests for the things that I could write. I feel like the views do not reflect the quality of the story though. I just don’t know how to market very well. Plus posting at 10:30 PM hasn’t been helping.
Trying a new schedule with new ideas
I’m still going to stick with the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday format but keep testing what kinds of content to release.
Monday’s will always be a blog to open the week. I may write about last weeks performance, how I’m feeling, things that are happening this coming week, etc.
Wednesday’s will remain open for several different kinds of content.
Story Reviews
Shout outs
Teasers to Friday’s stories
Friday’s is a bit debatable for me but I want to keep it for fictional content. So Some sort of short story or podcast episode will release. I am not sure at what time. Previously I’ve released the stories at 10:30 PM but I may try the morning or another time in Friday.
I may occasionally add at the bottom of the posts some updates to certain things like if I updated the author site or anything of that nature.
What am I going to do about Paid tiers?
For the next month or two, I’m going to turn of paid tiers. This would be paid and founding member subscribers. The reason is that Fiction Bites is too new to be offering paid content right now, especially while I’m testing the waters with my stories.
Plus I may start a Patreon for exclusive content instead but not sure. There is a chance that I change it all to Patreon and YouTube if the Podcast works out. Then again I don’t want to loose the subscriber list I’m building here so I’ve got some decisions to make.
Last thoughts
Did I think about quitting Fiction Bites? Yes.
Am I going to? No.
I’m 200% dedicated to making this work. A lot of it is just figuring out how to make it work. I clearly need help figuring out marking and social media strategies. I may need to improve my content too.
I’m also thinking about delaying the podcast now with me still stumbling through the motions of up-keeping a blog and podcast. It may be better if I read my stories then write them. I’m not sure. I think most people haven’t found my work so it’s hard to tell.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
So glad you're not quitting! I can't reply to your DM for some reason, but I'm happy to watch you learn and grow. That's what we're meant to do as humans!
